After 44 Years Of Dating, Elderly Couple Finally Get Married

A couple who first met in 1972 and have been together for over 40 years, now both aged in their 80s, finally tied the knot last week.

Colin Dunn, 84, and Sally Smith, 82, first met 44 years ago when Sally worked behind the bar at Colin’s social club.

Colin said, “Sally used to serve me every weekend when I’d go in after work. We got chatting and she got used to me going in. Eventually, I asked her out.”

And although they’ve spent 44 years together, they only got engaged last year as the thought of marriage “never entered my head”, according to Colin.

“All of a sudden the children were growing up and leaving home and it was just me and Sally, so we thought it as finally time to become man and wife.”

“We kept on saying, ‘It’ll be next year, it’ll be next year’ — but we were happy as we were.”

But after the loss of two of his brothers, Colin decided to tie down the love of his life after all that time.

“We were going through a bit of trouble and we started thinking what is this happened to one of us? We decided we wanted to be man and wife.”

And so finally the couple were wed at a small ceremony near their home in Leeds, UK, with a meal in the very same social club where they met afterwards.

“It was worth the wait,” beams Sally, “The day was lovely, even the weather. We had a beautiful cake at the reception but the highlight for me was actually getting married.”

And the happy couple are looking forward to many more years together, saying: “If you work at a relationship you can keep it going. She’s always looked after me and I’ve always looked after her.”

“We’ve had little fall-outs over the years, just like everyone but …; we’ve always been happy.”
